Places to Visit
Eilean Donan Castle
Dornie’s most famous landmark is the world-renowned romantic Eilean Donan Castle, possibly the most photographed castle in the country. You can walk to the castle in 15 minutes from Dornie Lodges.
Glenelg
You can still cross the sea to Skye on the community run Glenelg ferry, the world’s last seagoing, manually operated turntable ferry. Before you take the ferry visit the iron-age Brochs (fortified dwellings), and have a drink in the traditional Glenelg Inn.
Balmacara Estate and Lochalsh Woodland Garden is a hidden gem. Owned by the National Trust for Scotland it offers beautiful and easy woodland walks with fantastic views over Loch Alsh, and fascinating insights into agricultural tradition.

The Isle of Skye
Dornie is a great base for visiting Skye. The bridge to Skye is only 10 minutes drive from Dornie, and the island is always ranked highly in “the worlds best islands”. Apart from its sheer scenic beauty the list of places to visit in Skye is almost endless but we’d recommend the Talisker Distillery, Dunvegan Castle, the harbour at Portree, The Quirang and the Storr in the North, and Isle Ornsay in the South to name but a few – oh yes – and the Cuillins.
